Revolution - Al Pacino - Probably too long, but it is beautifully photographed.

My favorite is Revolution. Following in no set order:
April Morning
The Patriot
The crossing
Valley Forge (a little tacky, but I like the bleakness of it)
John Jakes The patriots
1776 (gotta love a musical!)
And finally: Drums along the Mohawk.
These are all titles I've seen and, for the most part, enjoyed.
Here's a list I pulled off of IMDB:

A really good comedy, partly set about the time of the Rev War, is "The Time of Their Lives" starring Abbott and Costello. My favorite movie by them.

Al Pacino made a Rev War movie??? :shocked2:

Yeah, in 1985. Donald Sutherland plays a British sargeant in it. Annie Lennox even makes a brief appearance. It's a bit dated, and there might be a close up or two of a percussian gun, but it's really quite good. I think it has a better story than the Patriot, and does a better job of showing the progression of the Continental Army from a "rabble in arms" in '76 to a disciplined organized army by '81. A great depiction of NYC too. It's my favorite Rev War movie out there.

Can't get it, except in foreign play versions. :(

Revolution in VHS.

Too true ... but I got it last year, and it was not bad!

Watched it tonight..UGH! We are soooo desperate for Rev War movies that we swallowed this? Too "artsy" for me. Valley Forge skirmishes? And Yorktown looked like the White Cliffs of Dover instead of a tidal basin.

"Broken Chain" with Pierce Brosnan as Sir William Johnson covers the time period of the F & I war through the Rev. War basically telling the story of the Iroquois Nation and it's demise during this time period and how Joseph Brant rose to power. I'm sure it's not totally historically correct but pretty entertaining.

Indeed, Revolution has some problems but it has some very good set dressings and some memorable scenes. I think it is a much better movie the The Patriot, that movie is unwatchable to me.
The scene of Pacino going from boat to boat in New York city is fabulous. Other scenes in the city has ashes falling gently from the dirty city sky like a light snow. That is a great detail. I agree Yorktown and Valley Forge are faulty, some of the other details more than make up for it.
