It can be salvaged and used as a storage horn. Pour a little sealant into it and 'roll' it around the base plug to seal it. Carve yourself a front plug and voila...someone told me what type 'glue' to use and I forgot--maybe a horner out there knows...

Im more apt to sell it to someone who wants some history, OR trade it for a horn I can use.

Anyone interested, PM me.

I was going to cut 6 inches off of it and make a smaller horn out of it.

BUT, I cant wreck something thats 150 years old or so.

Mike,

Thought of that, even ordered a brass tip with plug that will fit the big opening.

I just dont feel its right to mess with something this old. Id rather let someone who knows what they are doing have it.

Opps sorry :-(

Well a sad end to this horn. I was prepping the end for a brass spout, and the entire outer edge crumbled into pieces.

I am in mourning

DITO....Most of the dealers on Ebay use the word vintage on older, but not antique items, so buyers can't come back at them! Nice unique powder horn, so use and enjoy it!
