We all know about the single action cap and ball revolvers...

Were there any double action cap and ball revolvers made???

Yes, the Starr was made around the early civil war period and was originally a double action only. It was considered by some in the military to be too advanced and would lead to wasting ammo. In 1863 they produced a single action version.

Yep. The Starr was made right here locally in Binghamton, NY (and also in Yonker, NY). I understand it was issued in numbers, and also that the single-action version was preferred as the DA had excessive trigger pull.

If I recall rightly, the Starr was the third most commonly issued Northern revolver, right after the Colt and the Remingtons.
