Your a long way from the Whittington Center but if you ever get out there they have a white buffalo at 1400 yards and change. Takes a little while to get sighted in but tons of fun.

I know that White Buffalo well (I have not been there, but i have seen him Shot on Video, including World Champion Dave Gullo’s Old “Ripley’s Believe it or not “Long Shot” on him) That Buffalo (Homer is his name) is actually 1,123 Yards, And he is HUGE at 6 Foot By 10 Foot. My Target is 75 Yards Farther, and ONLY 3Ft by 3Ft Square

Yes, I need a set of pin gauges... I have many of them from .355” to .504”. It was remarkable to me how accuracy with this particular cone degraded in just a few shots. I’ve used charges from 50gr. to 80gr. 3f Swiss under 300 to 400 grain bullets. I’m going to start using 2f on the next go around. The 300 grain mold I bought from @Michiganmuzzy is one of my favorites. Excellent bullet and probably perfect for antelope, deer, yotes, other smallish critters. Honestly it would probably take elk handily if it were legal here.

That's a long drive from upstate NY. There is a range within an hour of me, but that never have openings to join, it's pricey, and the 1000 meter range is only open one morning per week. I checked a while ago.

But, I can't see that far anyway. And I'm not sure I'd care for the recoil of a 500+ grain bullet in front of 100 grains of powder. That has to rattle your teeth.

I use Swiss 2F, 100 Grains of it in the .50 Cal Rifle in this 1,200 Yard Shoot above. Swiss 2F is my ALL time Favorite Powder, I have tried Swiss 1.5 as well, Accuracy was GREAT, But i was consistently getting “Slight“ Hang fires, This due to it’s Courser texture, It simply doesn’t Flow through the Fire Channel of my Sidelock Muzzleloaders near as well as 2F Grade.

I also use Platinum Lined nipples that i get from BACO (Buffalo Arms Co.) But in this Particular 1,200 Yard Shoot i was using a New, Cheap Treso/Ampco Nipple. I get great life from them in .50 & .54, The Smaller the Bore the harder on Nipple life, I have a 32” 1:15 Twist .358 Bore that i shoot 340 Grain Bullets in, This thing EATS a Nipple up in 12 Shots, BRUTAL on them! I absolutely have to use a PT Nipple in this .358 Bore

These Rice Barrels are FLAT OUT Awesome shooting Barrels Unlike some Muzzleloader Barrel Steels such as 12L14, Rice BULLET barrels are “Match Grade” 4140 Chromoly Steel, Left Hand Twist. Even the Breech Plugs are CNC Machined from Solid Bar Stock, instead of Cast. Rice makes a “Drop in” for the TC Hawken & Renegade, Which is what i have, 3 of them to be Exact

I’ve actually been contemplating sending the ratty barrel on my investarms Hawken to Rayl or Hoyt for a liner. One of my shooting buddies is set up for long .375 conicals in a tc Hawken. If I go with that caliber, I won’t have to buy a mold.

all this long range stuff is gonna cost me money.

Get one of those curved barrels like Elmer Fudd had, and then set up a 440 yard round track with a target frame on an electric hoist that can be raised & lowered quickly. Then, all you have to do is shoot, with the target frame raised, get the bench and yourself the hell out of the way sideways (heavy duty rollers on tracks?), wait for the bullet to go around the track 3 times, lower the target frame, and VOILA!!! X marks the spot. Do that 5 times and you have a winning 1 mile group!!

maybe a really small target at 250yds, like a golf ball.
realistically, the only way to accomplish it near home would be for me to find a farmer who’s in to muzzleloading. We don’t really have the wide open spaces of the west, without dodging dairy cows.

Rayl .40 bore with 16" twist. Recoil is not a significant factor.
Doing it again I'd definitely go with a .41 bore instead (just because there's so many off the shelf .410 diameter rifle molds).
This barrel might become a .43 bore to shoot the same .42 round ball as for the .41 caliber 1858 Remington.

But this year I want to do more shooting with the .391 smooth sided adjustable length paper patch mold before changing up anything.

unfortunately at my ranch I can only get out to 940 yards due to the terrain (if it were flatter, then I could get 1100+ yards)...

Is this a 15/16th barrel or 1"? I would like to get one for my lyman trade rifle. I'm thinking it's a 15/16th. I've use a tc drop in barrel on it for a replacement years ago.
