Rifle/Fowler with full length SB oct.,what looks like cast 41 1/2" barrel.Has rifle sights instead of bead.Lock has scene of hunter and running fowl.Might have been bored to SB years back.Bore mics at .605.No stamps.

It does look like it started life as a rifle. Is the barrel octagonal for its full length? It looks like a wood screw in place of the tang screw. I wouldn't be surprised if the missing wood above the lock came out when the barrel was removed at one time. I had that happen to me when rust formed a bond with the stock which was very dry and somewhat brittle.
