Rebel,

I like Jackie Brown, but most of his guns use hydraulic tubing for barrels. These tubes are formed around a mantle and then the mantle is pulled out. So, they will leave marks which I guess some people could mistake for straight rifling. There's nothing unsafe about the barrels. Most of his barrels shoot pretty good. I've had several of his barrels unbreeched and looked down the barrels and these marks are very common. To keep prices down, the marks are not polished out. :v

Thomas, these are not just marks in the bore. They are evenly spaced grooves and ridges, all about the same width, from the muzzle to the breechplug. I can feel them at the muzzle with my finger, and see them going straight down the bore by shining a ight down the bore.

And there is no twist, not even a slow one, say 1:98 inches?

If it is truely straight then I would have to say them are fouling grooves designed to make loading easier between cleaning...

Heck, what do i know. All i know is it has evenly spaced ridges and valleys running the length of the barrel and i can feel them with my finger inside the bore. If it isn't straight rifling, it should have the same effect as if it were. They are deep enough to be shallow rifling. Did Jackie ever use real barrels in his guns, say back in his early days? This is an older gun, not a new one. It has J Brown engraved on the top flat of the barrel. I don't know much about Jackie's work, so any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rebel..he posts over on Historical/Trekking..matter of fact he was discussihng his hydralic tubing barrels over there on a "What Smoothebore Topic" It's not the new topic of the same name, but you have to go to the older topics and on the second page you will see it.
