Monarchy is a government of spoiled inbreds that inherited everything. Nowadays, monarchs may not have real power, but they are a bunch of trust fund kids living off the government.

Regular politicians may be scummy, but getting to (theoretically) choose them is inherently more just.

While my own personal views are as anti monarchist (and inherited nobility in general) as they can get, and much more radical about it than I want to post here, my original comment was a joke because war is never cool and it’s playing on the American anti monarchy mindset
Dear Tobjohn. Its no joke to me & Ime surprised at your ranting ,Your clearly better off than Ile ever be & you have my account of my beginnings in WW2 . Spoiled inbreds ?. I didn’t mean any disrespect towards you, and you know I respect you a great deal, I only meant disrespect to the institution of monarchy. Its just antithetical to many of my personally held beliefs.

Well from a man who dotes on Sir Francis Drake & the 'Golden Hinde 'its rather curious ,First I've heard the term antithetical .They might inherit a Crown Or loose their head as has happened & we did have a Dictator who was duly hated . A certain Oliver Cromwell a soure puss .religious nut . Nothing sereen like the late Queen .What your new govt will turn out like is hard to say but dosn't look like it will be very serene. Time will tell.

Hi Flint1,
TRS did make copies of the Ordnance issued Ferguson in the Milwaukee Public Museum. The only other known survivng Ordnance Ferguson is in the Morristown National Historical Park in New Jersey. I've built 3 Ferguson rifles using TRS parts and the castings are generally excellent.

Mine are copies of the Morristown gun, which I handled and examined closely. There are lots of stories and myths about the Ferguson rifles. I've never seen any documentation that the survivng rifles came up from the south. Moreover, if some of Ferguson's men kept their rifles it was in direct violation of Howe's orders. There are those who want to believe Ferguson rifles were used at King's Mountain? The only British soldier at King's Mountain was Ferguson and he did not have a rifle on him when he died. The rifles were originally issued to British soldiers so to have been at King's Mountain, they had to be reissued to loyalists. There is no surviving documentation of that but it is clear Ferguson's Amercian Volunteers were armed at Charleston with the usual period arms and perhaps some pattern 1776 muzzleloading rifles.

Thanks for this post, Dave. The Ferguson was a very clever innovation on par with Christian Sharps. I have always been curious about how it functions. Is there gas leak at the breech and does fouling affect the turning of the screw?

My family has been in the "colonies" since the 17th century - some by choice - some forced. I have kin on both sides of the pond including one who lost the number of his mess on the Hood and another in the Napoleonic wars. We have fought each other and fought together as allies. We have much more in common than not. By the way some of us liked Cromwell as well as some were Jacobite. I am a proud American and am proud of my British roots as well.

My paternal family has been in America since 1733. My maternal family since 1630. I have learned thru my DNA analysis that I am German, Irish, Norwegian, English, Welsh, Spanish, and perhaps a little Ukrainian or Russian. I believe at one time some of these has fought some of the others. In general, I have no ill feeling towards any of them.

@Rudyard I’m very confused why you thought it necessary to make your initial comments towards what we Americans see as hero’s. Unless you were hoping for the “flood of vitriolic hatred” you mentioned earlier. Last I checked nobody here is your enemy and to be honest I thought such blatantly inflammatory remarks were beneath you.
