Greetings fellas,
I was wondering if somebody would tell me: What would be the ideal powdercharge for Pedersoli Kentucky pistol(45 cal) with a patched 44 ball.
Thx
WB

Just like a long gun, you gotta work up a load. Start at about 15 gr. and work up and down from there. I would not exceed 30 grs. I have a Pedersoli Kentucky .45 flint, and I have not worked up the best load for it, but somewhere around 15 grs is comfortable and I think it will work out there.

i started at 30, and it is very accurate. no concern on hand shock, and it is within the specs of pederoli's reccomendations. i use 30 in my rifle, so it made sense to try. shoots great. I would consider 15 grains way too light for anything other than punching paper.

Folks at our BP League started with 30 gr. FFFg Goex and on windy days push it a little more, up to 35 or 40. If you hold the gun still enough, it'll knock-out the 10-x ring at 25 yds. :shocked2: . The scoreing for the match hits 94x100 with these tack-drivers. Don't be affraid to feed it some fuel...the ball will spend less time hanging in the air and thus be less susseptable to Mother Nature's wind gusts :) . Good luck and breathe deep...BP is the smell of freedom  . All the best, Dave

Thanks a lot Dave  I'll try it on this weekend.Fortunately the weather is getting better here.
WB :hatsoff:

Yeah mine is a flinter too.Its brand new.I'm not used to pistols just for big cal military muskets.Thought Yeah whatta heck I got one.Good for a sash.
Thanks I appreciated.
WB

I just shot my new kentucky pistol a last saturday for the first time. I started with 15 and it didn't even make it to the paper at 25 yards. ok...it made it but scared when it got close to the target. I bumped it to 35 and it was awesome....i love blackpowder.

I shoot my 50 cal Kentucky with 25 grains all the time and keep it in the black. If you're going to spend a long time at the range a lighter load with less recoil is easier on the wrist and shoulder.
