I picked up a brick of CCI 400s today for 75.00 at a gun show. That's the best I've seen them post Covid !

Primers Remington SRP not plated $75K The others 90-125$k.
I haven't had any LRP since spring.
Caps, nothing from my distributors for 4+ years.
XhiMart on and off $5.69/ 100.

I think I got lucky at the local gun show last weekend. Saw 6 packs of CCI 11's for $10 each. I bought 2 and left the others for someone else who might need them, though it was Sunday afternoon and not long before the show closing.

Do you happen to know how well Triple 7 handles load compression !

Some people say no compression (think Hodgdon says this in the loading manuals) others claim success with strong compression in revolvers. I’ve used it in revolvers and rifles and have struggled with it in revolvers. Maybe I’m just ham handed but I find velocity and accuracy are not as consistent as with real black so I tend not to use it much. I have used it in caplock rifles and it works fine there where apparently I’m able to apply more consistent loading pressure. It is powerful stuff and if I lived where you do, with the limited availability of black powder I could probably make peace with it somehow. Or begin milling my own black powder…

T7 likes a small amount of compression. If you try to compress it hard the pressure get erratic. This from numerous members on another forum that have chronographs and the time to play with such things.

T bought a tin of 100 CCI #11 caps yesterday for $15. I started buying powder & caps in 1973, the year I bought my first 1860 Colt Army and a fullstock long rifle. They were cheap back then.

Gun shows are the worst place to get caps and primers . Hang on, they are slowly coming back into circulation.

I'm spending most of my time now days in my twilight years with flint lock rifles and percussion revolvers. Strange how we change over the years in our tastes !

Because discussion of primers was given some leeway as they are sometimes adapted to caplocks, however some people are under the misconception that because primers are being discussed, then modern fixed ammunition and platforms that use such ammunition somehow, magically became valid for comments on this forum.
