I am trying to make heads or tails of a roach belly half tang pattern that has come to light. It came from a Abenaki family and was a ermine wrapped wood sheath. Neck hung.it was purchased in the 70's.

Anywho...half tanged roach belly are not on my radar. Did they exist?

I would highly suspect that they did exist. Possibly more than full tanged, as they would be cheaper to produce or purchase. That said, I have noting to back that assumption up. I have one source that may be able to. I'll look and get back to you.

Thanks Wick...

You and I share a common friend. I see Roy Stroh pretty often these days...

I haven't seen Roy in a few years now. Excellent gun builder and an all around good guy. I have not found anything of help to your question, but I'm still looking.

Too funny..

Just got back home from Roy place. We better watch out. He's got me cutting out a piece of 1084 for a knife he's gonna make.
