Hello,

can't nearly stand it anymore until the roe season in GE will start on 1st of May. Until September only bucks and female yearlings are free. Hope to make some good kills which I can show pics from to you all.

Hi,

Both here (Andorra) and in Spain it started on April 15th.
I missed the roe license draw that took place in autumn, so no way hunting in Andorra.
I have a licence and a tag for Spain, though.
I hope I'll be able to go next weekend.
I don't expect much as the place where I hunt is mainly deer country and I have some kind of curse with roe deers, but at least I'll take the muzzleloader out for a walk

Viel Erfolg!

Regards,

Gerard.

I know the feeling. Our spring turkey season will not be open until April 30th. It is driving me nuts. Mary and I drove past her father's home and we spotted a small flock of the big birds out in the pasture. There was a very large gobbler that was in full strut and had a long, thick beard.

Hi Gerard, so you are from Andorra. When I did my geographie right it is between France and Spain. So you are allowed to hunt with ML thére and in Spain? Which rifle do you use? I have a .50 Deerhunter fom Ardesa/Traditions and a Investarm GPR in .45.

Greetings from Germany

That's good, you didn't forget the details.

In Andorra, no problem at all.
In Spain, it's not so clear.
There is a general national hunting law, and then one specific law for each state (or "autonomous comunities" as they call them). The national law isn't clear at all about using muzzleloaders for hunting, to the point that it generates endless debates between ML amateurs. Depending where you hunt and who you deal with, you may be fine or in trouble.
I hunt in mainly in Catalonia and sometimes in Aragon. I have asked the local game wardens and Guardia Civil and it's OK with them so there shouldn't be any problem.

I have a Pedersoli Pennsylvania carbine http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/ArmiCategoria.aspx?CategoriaId=205&lang=en
It's a percussion, in caliber .50
I took it twice to driven hunts at the end of the season, but I dind't have any good shooting oportunity.
Next season I plan to hunt deer with it in september/october (stalking, no driven hunts) and maybe mouflon.

mfg,

Gerard.

Hi Gerard,

as I can see you a common with german language writing terms like mfg (Mit freundlichen Grüßen). Do you have any relations to Germany, probably you are a emmigranted German.

Here in Germany we also have not many ML hunters, because many think it is forbidden by láw, but thats definitely wrong. ML guns are allowed for hunting in Germany. The national german hunting asociation (DJV) gave a statement to that discussion. they replied that even the minimum energies for special game are not valid for ML and shotguns, but only for cartridge rifles. So we can hunt with PRB and conicals.

How big do the spanish roes get?

Hunting season starts over in South Africa on 1st May as well, ends end of August.

Hi Heinrich,

on which kind of deer is it then allowed to hunt?

Here in GE it goes step by step. Starts with roe, in June then with red deer and wild hogs, july with chamoise. At first only bucks and female yearlings are free. Later in the year in september then does and fawns are free.

No, I'm not German. I have som German relations, though, and German has a high priority in my languages to learn list.

Good.
It seems that we all have a lot of work to do in Europe in general to promote ML hunting.

There seem to be some good trophies in central and northern Spain, but I guess not as good as those you can hunt in central Europe.
I hunt in mountain zones (from 800 to 1.800 mts altitude in Spain and from 1.200 to 2.200 in Andorra). I guess life is harder for deers there and it shows in the quality of trophies. Also, most hunts are either on public land or big communal hunts and the game keeping/selection is not as easy and accurate as you are used to by german standards.

mfg,

Gerard.

For the complete season, you may hunt all antelope, and pigs.

We don't have restrictive seasons, and you may use all types of guns during the season.

I woould like to say hello to a fellow Bavarian- well half Bavarian, my Father was from Augsburg- greetings :hatsoff:
You are so blessed to hunt deer with a m/l. Here in Britain we have no law that says we can not use them but big brother has took it upon himself to prohibit such activity :shake: I legally can use a smoothbore for small game and pests with shot only. Fortunatly big brother can not be around all of the time :winking:
Good luck on your Roe, I will listen out for your shot and look for your smoke  I took a doe in february in Scotland with my win 94 30/30. one day it may be a ball :hatsoff:

When I start to realize the ML hunting plan many german hunters also said that it is forbidden by law to hunt with ML, but a asking at the german hunting association DJV brought me a positive statement. ML hunting is not forbidden in Germany by law, but it is not weel seen by the association because no fast second shot and hunters could shoot to far with their ML. But these reasons are nonsens and nuts. If they were true you also can't shoot at deer with a singleshot cartridge rifle, and shooting to far is also possible with a cartridge gun. The hunter makes the shot, not the rifle, so he decides how far he will shoot, and that depends on his own education and expirience.

Hope to have some good hunts so that I can post the pics.

Man It seems like it will be forever before deer seasion comes around here again. Well I hope you have great weather and lots of deer sign for your hunt Regards Fisher King  .

 Herr Kirrmeister, does one still have to take the long training course with the local Jaeger Meister, in order to get one's hunting license? I remember taking my course in 1954 in Kaiserslautern. Thank God for my german speaking parents and High School and College German professors. :v

Hi Paquenel,

yes it has. To get the german hunting licence is always a operation where you need much time and have to learn much facts. The law was only changed in this way that you have more attempts for the test in the year and that you only have to repeat the parts of the tests which you have failed, and not the complete test when failing one part. The parts are: 1. multiple choice test
2. colloquium 3. gunhandling and shooting test.

But the tests differ in the german states. So Bavaria has another test than for example Hessia. But the main things are the same.

Greetings from Germany!

Kirrmeister
