I was just able to buy my first Hornady .490 round balls, 600 at $9.99 a box of 100. After opening up one of the boxes the Hornady balls are rough on the outside compared to Speer balls being pretty smooth.
Both weigh about the same.
just my 2 cents.

I've noticed that too...as if the Speer balls are polished off a little nicer or something...I could never tell a difference between the two in how they shot, and the Hornady's run a couple bucks a box less

I bought 4 boxes of "Wheel Weight" brand roundballs from Gander Mountain. They were 5 bucks per box of 100.

They look like they were hammer formed. Haven't shot any yet though. Hope they at least make good plinking balls.

I have noticed that also, havent noticed they shoot any different, though. I used to use hornady, they were cheaper, now the speer is cheaper. I need to cast my own as much as I shoot, just havent gotten a new mold yet.
