Fellows, My Lee .595 diameter round ball mould gave up the ghost. Lee no longer makes this as a standard size, and their custom price is out of my league. E-mailed Jeff Tanner three times, no answer. Rapine retired. Called just about everyone that supplies Lee moulds to see if they had an old one still in inventory, no dice. Advertised here and another B/P site, no deal. I can't think of anything else to do short of mikeing up stones in the driveway. Any suggestions? :idunno:

I wonder if you could enlarge one of the Lee .575 molds by mounting some of your .595 balls on the end of a thin shaft, impregnating them with lapping compound, and using them as a honing cherry on a power drill.

If you know some one with a metal lathe lapping discs can be be made by turning a piece of steel to the desired diameter and cutting off thin sections. To use: make a slotted shaft to hold the disk out of dowel rod. Line the mold up in your drill press(or bridge port if you are fornuate enough to have one ) and use valve grinding coumpound.Due to the sprue hole the resulting lapped recess may be out of round by one or two thousands, but many new molds are already not perfectly round . If you want more detailed info drop me a p.m. :hmm:

I got an email reply from tanner he was on vacation in Portugal and will be back next week. I did not use the link when I emailed him I typed it in since I do not have my computer set up.

You will have your Tanner mold in 7 days from ordering it. You will be much more happy with it than one from Dixie. For Sure

or... if you really want a Lee, I'm in the market for a .595 RB mold too. Let's get a few more interested folks, and we could split that nasty set up fee into something manageable...

PM me if you're interested.

For what it's worth, Track of the Wolf still shows available listing for .595 roundball in stock. No mold though.

I just received an e-mail from Jeff Tanner, God is in his heaven and all right with the world, Well at least in my world, if only for a moment.
Thanks to all of you for the possible solutions you offered up, couple of them, I might take an old mold and do some 'speramenting. This place is great!

how much is a Jeff Tanner mould going for? Has anyone used one of the bag moulds that smiling fox forge sells and seen how they compare with Tanner's?

I will also check my stock, I had one and it’s in good shape, and I do not think I gave it away. I haven’t fired a 69 cal. in a few years so it is packed away if I still have it. I have been staying with the 50 cal. the last few years.

If I find the mold in my BP parts, I will gladly mail it to you for a smile and promise to make some smoke with me at the range if you are ever in AZ. Let me look tomorrow for the mold.

Robby (and any of you other Tanner customers) - How does it work with the dollar vs pound? Do you give him you just give your credit card # to the Sandiego address? Does he convert the price before telling you how much to send (if by check)to that address all is well? How does he ship it from the UK?

you pay in US dollars via paypal. You will get your mold within 7 days. I have 2 and whenever I need another I will go to him.

AZ, I'd be glad to take you up on your offer, even if you can't find the mould! This has been a real odyssey trying to place an order with Jeff Tanner, over five E-mails sent, the last one received was from someone I have never heard of that said I sent it to him by mistake, all I did was reply to Tanner using the "Reply" on my E-mail. Three requests for my address, one stating that my third post was the first he had heard of it. So, I'm not too confident this is going to happen. I'm pulling for you AZ, dig deeper :haha: .
Marc, I don't know how it is done, I havn't moved that far along in the process :idunno: . Good luck!

Robby,

I found the .575 and .600 mold in my storage, but I know I have a .595. I just put a call into my buddy, because he might have my mold because he had an 1842 Springfield and the .595 worked the best for him. He sold the rifle, so he might have my mold because we did a lot of casting together.

I will let you know by tomorrow if I can put my hands on it.

Sorry, my buddy sold the mold with the rifle. He also, reminded me I said it was OK, but I don’t remember. Getting old is tough. :)
