As I was purchasing the Replica Arms revolver I seen a new addition to thier stock.
Ruger old army for a OMG price of $199.99.
I had to see it. I asked to look at it. The Saleman pulled it out of the display case and said this price is wrong has to be up another hundred, if you don't buy it as marked. It had the original box. I pulled it out of the box and started examining it. everything was tight, it had a set of S.S. nipples installed, action was nice. I asked the salesman to pull the cylinder.
looking thruoght the barrel I found the OH OH. 3/4 of the way down on of the lands was pitted or rusted pretty good, it was very obvious. Now I know why it was only 200 bucks.
Not being familiar with ROA's what wouyld be the course of action on this gun? Can it be sent back to Ruger for replacement of the barrel? Or due to no longer manufacturing is this pistol stuck with it's issues? They have 3 other ROA's there priced at $399.99 better to let the other go? Or can it be rescued?

Personally I would have to pass on it, but then again I don't have much use for revolvers. Finding another barrel shouldn't be all that much of a problem if Ruger can't do the repairs. Could run the price up a bit having a 3rd party repair.

I would say it's a crap shoot.Sometimes rusty & pitted barrels clean up and shoot good. Other times they don't. One thing for shure it will cost more than $100 if you have to replace the barrel.

Do you feel lucky?

the rusted bore will 'lead up' and after a few shots are fired be inaccurate. you might try to beat them down on the price and call Ruger customer service to inquire about replacement.
if you could get it for say 100-150 it might be worth the trouble.
that's what I would do.

I have learned to listen to the little voices in my head!

When in doubt, pass.

It is my understanding that Ruger will not replace a damaged barrel, but I could be wrong on that. I'd call their customer service first at 603-865-2442.

Lacking their advice on replacing the barrel, walk away.

I would have already bought it. It would be at home waiting from a new barrel from Brownells or awaiting a hacksaw attack. I do like that gun with a 4 to 5 1/2" barrel.
