SOLD Ruger Old Army for sale

I have a Ruger Old Army Blackpowder revolver for sale. It was made in 1973 according to Ruger's web site. It had a taller front site installed on it before I got it in 1990.
They do that with these to target shoot. It brings the impact down about 6 inches so the adjustable back sight can be moved up or down to get your load centered.
I shot competition with it for a while at 25 & 50 yds with roundball and hunted with it using light conicals.
When shooting targets I used 25 grn. of 3F blackpowder until I found 777. I then would put about one 9mm shell casing full of Cream of Wheat on top of the powder, then the roundball with a dab of bore butter on top of that. Shot great groups at 25 yds.
I have the nipple wrench for it and will make a copy of the Ruger Manual I got with my other ROA. I also have a black canvas flap case with it. It has some scratches and bumps but is a great pistol. You can get extra nipples from Track of the Wolf or other Black Powder Suppliers. It still locks up pretty good for it's age. The sight is correct. It was designed to look like a ramp.

The front sight can be seen either way. If one is a competitive shooter like me, the front sight looks like a Patridge sight design, except on backwards. If one is a recreational shooter or hunter, it looks like a ramp sight. The ramp front sight is easy to draw out of a holster. The owner said he did both target shooting and hunting.

Ramp front sights do not make good target sights for bullseye shooting. A Patridge front sight will have the face of the tall edge of the sight facing the rear, preferably, "undercut". This allows the rear face of the front sight to form a "shadow" edge, naturally blacking it out, making it more crisp and defined with the square notch of the rear sight. IMHO. Hope this helps.

Thanks D Buck. I have had probably 6 or 7 of these and that is the way the sight comes on them. I had two stainless but traded both for a modern Remington XP100R in 260 Rem.
I would use black out on sunny days and I would use a Sharpie on low light days because it would shine a little to pick up the top of the sight.

You got my curiosity up so I looked up web pages about shipping guns to California.

Everything I found says there is no problem with shipping muzzleloading or cap & ball pistols directly to someone in that state.

The states that cause problems are: HI, IL, MA, MI, NJ, and NY,

No law against send or buying muzzle loading firearms in CA directly to an individual. OK -- so send your info to [email protected] and we can get the ball rolling.

Ramp front sights do not make good target sights for bullseye shooting.

NOW you tell me. I only shot a ROA, Redhawk and Single Six competitively for more than 30 years (and did quite well, thank you) with that 'backwards' sight. Nobody ever told me I was doing it wrong.

If he would have responded and said what he was going to do I would not be writing this message or any prior ones on this subject. He was on this forum today at around 3 am - check it out.
