I finally got around to shooting it the other day and it shoots okay I guess, 3-4 inch 50 yd groups but that's not acceptable to me. I want it to drive tacks and light matches :haha: ! I'll probably have it re lined at some point in the near future.

Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.....

I've always been under the impression that given enough money all things are possible. :v

Sounds like folks want a chemical solution to remove rust yet not harm the bore. I can recommend this:

Never, ever, use naval jelly and such on a gun. It etches the good steel. I would never sand blast the inside of a barrel, however that might be done? Do not ever spin a brush, or anything else, in a rifled barrel. It will ruin it. All cleaning should be done back and forth. We do not want a rough surface or hills and valleys in the bore.

Evapo-rust is readily available. It does what the claims say. It will not harm intact steel in the least. After treating the bore it will leave pits with sharp transitions to the good metal. That will probably tear patches and attract fouling like a magnet.

To achieve the same result you can electrolytically de-rust. The Otters foul out system did this. You can make your own home brew version easily with internet directions. This method works great but has the same issue as Evapo-rust in that is reveals pits. You can get a barrel too clean.

Using steel wool, better yet chorboy/ scrub buds, will only remove the high rust and leave the craters filled with junk. That may not be so bad after all.
