My newly acquired Bess has a bad sight and know I need to move & straighten or replace it.
Since it's soldered on, I assume there will be a tell-tail sign on the side that's newly exposed. Since this barrel is browned I'd like to do some "touch up to the browning after moving, however, I think where the solder is in the metal any new browning will not take to the steel barrel (am I right?).
Existing front sight is bent over to the left and soldered on towards the left too (shoots 6-7" right at 25 yds. consistantly).
Present sight is a filed (hacked) down Fusil sight (# FS-Fusil-2-1 from Track) I think.
I'd like to go with Tracks silver #FS-Fusil-1s or the iron Turtle if I can get the solder prob. resolved.
If not, Maybe I should consider modifying something large enough to cover all previous solder? (like make one :youcrazy:)
Okay, any ideas on getting the solder out of the barrel for browning?
Open to ideas. (no I can't leave it this way :curse:) :(
Hmmm, maybe a hammered out (penny) copper base for the iron turtle to sit on??? :hmm:

riarcher I would heat top of sight till it came off and use sand paper to bare metal. When you solder on new sight you are going to have a little cleaning job anyway just make sure the 2nd time you get all the solder off barrel and use some kind of degreaser.I use lye and water mix hope this helps
