Just a little question --
I believe rum horns are lined with beeswax to make them sanitary; but what about salt horns ??
Are they polished and sealed inside ??
Just polished, or left raw ??
Thanks for any help..

mr. frog :

as far as the one's that i have built i've never coated the inside , just made the water tite like a powder horn . they seem to work fine !

With a salt horn you're just trying to keep moisture from being drawn in by the salt. Seal the outside with beeswax or similar. No need to mess with the inside beyond getting it smooth.

I believe the rum horns are sealed to avoid extracting "flavors" from the horn, and not just necessarily to make them sanitary. And I wouldn't bother to seal the inside unless you feel it is necessary, as the purpose of the horn is to keep your salt dry. As stated above, seal the outside and go.

Thanks guys -
