why not just send it to someone who can do it right?

I think in a gun building forum you probably meant to say " why not learn to do it right yourself" :wink:
 
I used straight flute reamers with an extention in increasingly larger sizes then honed as you suggested with wet or dry silicon carbide paper. When I made my pistol barrel I reamed by hand power and honed it under lathe power it is 14 inches long it took me about five hours of work total.
 
Thanks everybody, the barrel will go to Mr. Hoyt soon. It has a rather large deep dovetail in the octagon portion for an underlug. I believe it would be OK up to 24ga but I'd certainly like a second opinion. I understand Mr. Hoyt will contact me before work begins if there is a problem. Respectfully, George

That is a sound decision, IMO. He has the equipment to do the job properly, so easy for you. I've been to his new shop.
