You will often find old percussion guns in poor condition with the metal work covered in rust ,the woodwork dry and worm mostly due to neglect or left in a barn, cellar or loft. To most a gun in this state would end up scrap and the furnace but on most with patience they can be restored to a good wall hanger or better to a shooter
Enclosed are images of a 14 bore sxs percussion in a poor state with rust barrels and bore The ribs were to relay bore to lap out clean the barrel walls still had in the excess of over 30 thou then the barrel ends were square off ,plus a full breech clean and another clean of the barrels leaving them ready for browning
The stock was also cleaned to remove the dirt and crime but not the patina next was the furniture using steel wool and wire brush to remove the rust etc but not the engraving When finished the gun was submitted to the proof house and passed for black powder .
