I can't believe Herb and I are the only guys here with Hawken Squirrel type rifles.

Anybody else care to share pictures or information of these rifles?

I shot mine a bunch today and it is fast becoming my favorite gun. I shot kneeling at 60 yards and made groups of 1 1/4". That's as good as I can see. My last shot of the day hit a gong at 110 yards kneeling again. Not bragging, just want to share my excitement and satisfaction with this rifle! The neat part is this accuracy coming from a slim, trim, perfectly fitted, beautifully stocked Hawken Squirrel Rifle.

I still have that 32 caliber, 13/16" Douglass barrel to build with. I wonder if that lean barrel would look alright in one of these little Hawkens.

Please share if you can, Skychief.

Compared to the lock & barrel of my Renegade/Hawken (large lock, 1"x28" bbl). my Seneca (lowermost rifle, below) is scaled down, with a 13/16" barrel and a smaller lock - both the same small size as my Patriot pistol.

I too have a 36 seneca, I think it fits the bill pretty good. I am thinking about building up a 45 barrel for it to make it legal for deer in GA. Nice, small, good handling rifle, hopefully I will get a turkey with it next week. Chris

Nope!
The rifle is half scale!
I also built a 3/4 scale.
If I get the chance I'll post pictures.

You sure your not pullin' my leg?

I could have sworn that the Hawken was full size and the pistol was one of them new "Super Magnum Magnum's" that the Italians have been working on for "Those crazy Americans who all want a .75 caliber Magnum".
:rotf:

Here's my 3/4 scale Hawken type rifle.

Since I don't have a full sized Hawken for referance I chose the next best thing. (It's my recreation of a J. P. Gemmer trapdoor springfield 45-70)
A comparison of full scale, 3/4 scale, and 1/2 scale.

Enjoy

Interesting guns no doubt, keep the forum posted on the next project.

That is fine workmanship on the Gemmer/Trapdoor Rifle. Excellent job and a unique firearm. g

wow I bet the lock on the half scale was difficult? calibers on the 3/4 and 1/2?

The 3/4 is 45 caliber the 1/2 is 32 caliber.
If you do the math they both are a little bit big but fall in the realistic calibers range for plains rifles.
(45x4=180 divided by 3=60)
(32x2=64)
Ideally the 3/4 scale would have a 40 caliber barrel and the 1/2 scale would have a 25-27.
(40x4=160 divided by 3=53.33)
(25x2=50) (27x2=54)
I had both barrel blanks on hand so those are the calibers I used.
As far as making the 1/2 scale lock goes, I didn't put a fly in it so I think it was actually eaiser than building a full scale lock.
