Wow, that picture really speaks to the brutality of border warfare. I just finished reading "The Indian Wars Of Pennsylvania" by C. Hale Sipe. It's amazing how many instances there were of men, women, and children who survived scalping and lived on for many years. Some of the wounds never did heal properly.

I met an old timer when I was a boy who said he met someone who had been scalped which caused his face to droop down ... someone should have stapled it in place !
