FOR SALE Schimmel Rifle .50 Caliber

Good Evening Folks,

I present to you a great later 18th Century Rifle I had bought a few ago. My own judgement on the architecture of this fine piece is that it’s a 1790’s style. The caliber is .50 with all octagon barrel and knotched site with a blade sight forward. The stock is Tiger Maple that has a reddish hue ( to me). I’ve never fired this gun sadly. It doesn’t have a buttplate and wasn’t made with one . The barrel length is 44” . I’m asking 1,200.00 for this fine rifle that needs to be fired! Please pm me if interested. What are the screws at the bottom and the metal strap at the bottom of the buttstock? It looks like it once had something on the back and that has done gone missing.

That’s where the gunmaker made a cover for the curve on the butt. The gun was made simple with no butt plate.

Not missing. The pieces are there to protect the ends of the butt.

Schimmels sometimes have a nail on the end of the stock as wear protection.
