Today after church I called a couple of friends and asked them to come out to shoot. I took my Renegade with the green mountain barrel and peep sights and My son took his Rengegde just like mine. I went out a little earlier than the other guys. It gave me a chance to try some TC maxi hunters and Maxi Balls. I shot both styles of bullets and to be honest in my guns they are JUNK!
At 100 yards I was lucky to get 8" groups with the maxi hunters. The Maxi balls had about a 6" group. My friendws showed up just as I was shooting the last of the groups. I cleaned my gun and shot a group with Hornady Great plains 410's the group was just over 1" at 100 yards. So I loaded it and hung up the steel target it is 8"x12". One of my friends Wally was the first to shoot my gun. At the shot the steel at 100 yards rang the hit was dead center. John Also shot it and heard the same clang. We moved it out to 150 yards and both guys hit it again. Needless to say they were really digging my rifle. I moved it to 175 and again all three of us hit the target with one shot each.
We did some testing with the chronograph. My loads were right at 1500 average fps. John shot his gun with the same load. It is a TC White mt carbine 50 cal. He shot it with 100 gr of Pyrodex RS. His gun being shorter clocked 1220. He tried some 777. I told him cut back on the powder! Back it off to 70 gr at least. He cut it to 85. This load clocked 1525 out of a 21" barrel. He shot this load several times and his stock cracked right through the lock screw. I am not sure it was the stout loads that did it. His lock screw was TIGHT!
Anyway both of these guys have shot ML's for over 20 years off and on. Neither one thought a ML could shoot like this. I would bet both are looking into finding parts for their guns or getting new ones. My son shot his Renegade with many loads and it is a nice gun too. His has the double set triggers. He can ring our target about from anywhere. He loves that rifle. He is 12 and he wants to use it to hunt moose if he draws.
