Shot this old girl tonight at about 35 yards.I loaded 80 grains of 3f and 1 1/4 oz of four shot.Autopsy results showed several hits to the head, neck and shoulder. All in all, I couldn't ask more from the old CVA.

If I wasn't so full of turkey from Thanks Giving, then I'd say "mmmm, turkey sandwich!".

Nice bird! :hatsoff:

Well I had quite a day guys, plowed up a garden spot, killed turkey, and when I got back to the house, I found out I have a new gandbaby. Lathen Wesley. I didnt even know the girl was in labor. Thats the way to do it,come in and hold the baby after all the shouting is over.

Congrats on both counts! My daughter is only fifteen, but am looking forward to the day she grows up and gets married. I love babies. When it's a grandbaby, you get all the fun, without the mess. :rotf:

Congrats on the smoked bird!
Which CVA do you have? I have the Trapper with the 12 and 50 barrels. 3-4 loads work fine in mine all the way from 60-80 to 90-120. 90 120 is my turkey load!.

I have a trapper, I didn't know they had a .50 barrel for them. I bought it several years ago for a lightweight shotgun. I never load mine with that much powder. I couldn't deal with the thick wristed stock and re-shaped it and refinished it. It is so light that really heavy loads are brutal to shoot.

Yep! They are very light and the heavy loads kick like heck! I don't know if the New Englander came first or the Trapper, but they were both switch barrel guns. Mine came as a set all together. The 50 barrel is a little tighter than the normal 50 CVA and the rifling is cut different also. Mine shoots the Lee Target Minnie like a champ.
That 90 of powder and 120 of shot load rolled a bird at a hair over 40 yards a couple of years back! It kicks too bad to shoot very often, but it is a great turkey load.

The normal breech plug design of the little Trapper make it one of the very best guns CVA ever sold. I wish I could get a thickwall 20 guage smoothbore barrel to fit it for shooting roundball.
Nice to meet ya by the way! I am 40 miles or so south of the arch and about 4 straight line off the river. You get them on that side of the state and I will get the ones on this side!

I bought mine years ago, not long after they came out. It is a fixed modified choke.I wish I had a .54 barrel for it. I love the lock/trigger on it. It has the best trigger pull of any gun I own. Don't count it out for roundball. I have have been messing with .690 with pretty good results out to about 40 yards. I have a guy sending me some .680 to try out. I read on this forum where someone( I wish I could remember who) was getting good groups by using roundball in shot cups. I am going to try a .680 in a shot cup over a felt wad.I carry my trapper around more than any of my other guns. I sure never knew you could get other barrels for it.

Mine is the very light thin barrel with screw in choke tubes. The one you have has a heavier barrel. My barrel is very thin and the gun is under 5 pounds. You are correct in that the lock is very high quality for a production replica. I have another one here to use on a future project.
Lyman makes a slug mold that is designed to be fired out of a standard trap wad. I considered it as an option for deer, but I have the 50 barrel and have never went any farther than thinking and discussing so far.
I added a picture of mine to the previous post. Have a beautiful day!

PS, I spent most of yesterday driving around in the woods with a prosecutor visiting a crime scene for a case that is coming up Friday. It is a glorious time of year in the Ozark woods!
