Its not getting any cheaper!! you might want to keep it all and if you don't shoot much it could last you for years
Like a lot of us, I don't think he can afford to drop five hundred bucks on lead. That's why he's gauging interest to help absorb initial expense and end up with what he can afford.
 
Soft lead by definition is dead soft with absolutely no tin in the mix. The lead coming from the scrap yard can be of various products like plumbers lead pipe, roofing plaiting. My point is that with plumbers scrap pipe it can come with a joint still attached which should be cut off and kept out of the mix for pure lead. Plumbers joints contain tin. It doesn't take much tin added to soft lead to change it into a harder lead. When casting minnie balls or Maxi Balls, dead soft lead is much easier to load and perform to the rifling when fired. I cast and shoot minnie balls as well as bullets cast from Lyman #2 tin mix.
