Screw too long

I have a CVA Kentucky that I refreshed. Now I find the thimble screws on the front and rear thimble is to long. The guy I got it from counter sunk the screw holes! I have replaced the screws with new ones from Deer Creek.

Open to ideas on a fix. I thought of getting a ramrod for a smaller caliber and trying that.

Do you mean the heads are too high? A photo would help. If the threaded part is inside the thimble then a rat tail file can be used to trim the excess.

If the screw is too long, simply make it shorter. Cut some off.

File the length shorter

Cut it off twice, and see if it's still too short.
