I purchased a Cherokee that has a broken thimble screw, having a hard time finding a replacement. Just wondering just what size they are and if anyone has any idea of a way to alter a screw to work. THANKS

Got broken piece out of the hole yet? Similar problems with other stuff, if possible, I take whatever I need a screw for to the hardware store and try screws 'til I find one that works. Did that for a trigger adjustment screw for a Dixie Southern Mountain Rifle when Dixie didn't know what size. Of course, a trigger plate is much smaller than a barrel, but it works for me.

Find a screw that has the right thread then hold it in a drill and file the head to match the counter bore. Re-slot with a file or saw.

Thanks for the reply. I planned on doing what Mr. Coffins suggested but stopped by a friends gun shop and we rummaged through their old parts bin full of screws from mounting scopes and such from past 40yrs. Low and behold found 3 that were a perfect match, CRISIS OVER. Do not know what they came off but they sure came in handy. By the looks of things that thimble screw was probably broken during shipment because the screw head was still in the thimble.
