Scrimshaw powder horn by Gene "Yosef" Trilling of Missouri. I don't see any recent work of his (he sold his horns through an ebay storefront) but a skilled artist that made horns for the movie industry, museums, historical societies and collectors. To try to preserve an authentic look to his pieces without giving them a false date and signature, his maker mark is an eagle with a 4-letter code that he could record the style and date he made it. He made horns themed with Lewis and Clark, French & Indian War, Revolutionary War and US Civil War -along with commission work. His art started on paper from period drawings. He did the art and most of his horns were built by John Shorb (previous owner of Powder Horns and More).
Horn for sale is a nautical theme, with ship, dolphins, pirate and treasure chest. The celtic knot scroll around the base of the horn is typical of Trilling's horns. Horn has not been used. Brass base plug unscrews for easy filling. Horn is a bit over 16-inches along the outside curve. Base is 2" x 2.5" hardwood and nicely fitted with 4 brass tacks. Horn is white, but in a couple of the photos it looks more yellow.
Asking$295 $225 shipped in the US. PayPal FF, check, MO (or payment in gold doubloons for this sailor-pirate theme horn) are all good. PM for details.
