That's an excellent - trying one round in one chamber.

My Army arrived yesterday, and it's sweet. It was sold as used, but was never fired. I can see I'll have no problem loading a ball, but I haven't figured out how to get the bullet in past the 'cutout' in the barrel.

The 1,000 #10 Remington caps I bought and worried about weren't a bad investment - they fit fine.

On Monday I get my NIB 2nd gen 2nd Model Dragoon. The Army feels small to my medium-sized hands, so I'm looking forward to the massive Dragoon.

Are you saying that when you place the conical in the chamber mouth and try to rotate the cylinder under the rammer, the conical is too long to fit beneath the rammer? What weight conical are you using?

If you should happen to have a Lyman or RCBS style cast bullet sizer...
You could try a 45 pistol bullet cast of soft lead, lubed and the rear sized to slip into the chambers; i.e., custom made to suit your six-shooter.
I leave the front of the bullet large enough to have an interference fit when seating it with the loading lever.
Yeehah!
