I posted that this is my first BP rifle and I finally got it finished. I am waiting on my accessories so I can shoot it. I took some pictures and opened a photobucket account so I could show it off. I’m pretty excited!!

The rifle is basically the CVA 'Kentucky Rifle' with what appears to be some minor changes, possibly ordered by Sears. It indeed uses .440" round balls and, generally, .015" patches. For reference, found them to do well with 40 & 50 grains of FFFg and 50 to 75 grains of FFg. The 50 FFFg load was very accurate with several of these guns through the years. The 75 grain FFg load got up to about 1850 fps and would be a fair deer load under 75 yards, or so. Good luck.

you poor misguided soul. you are now becoming a black powder junkie. there is no cure, no 12 step program.Soon we will see you on the side of the road with a "will work for curly maple" sign in your hand....welcome friend

Tenngunn,
I will respectfully disagree with you above post. There is too a 12 step program, or rather, a 12 gun program, but even that is just a beginning and may or may not work to cure this affliction. I will let y'all know as I am getting close, but have a strange feeling that I may go over that... aww shucks, you're right, it is hopeless, but who would want to quit anyway?

I'm afarid I may already be there. I havent even shot this one yet, but while looking for accessories, I find muself looking for other guns as well.

Nobody likes a quitter!

Besides, you'll run crooked if you don't have one in each hand for balance!

Never mind the "cure", it doesn't work..........More......more....gotta have more....Won't someone please help me? I have lost all control. If only I had just one more gun. :youcrazy: :haha: :haha:

Hi, my name is Matt, and I'm a powderholic. It's been 30 days since I bought my last rifle....

Oh boy, if it's a 12 step/gun program, I have 7 more to go. Hmmm, what should be the next step?

I'm right behind you. I'm going to be looking for accessories next week so I can start shooting. You have a nice Kentucky rifle. Enjoy and Good luck!

Jim

I got a new gun for my wife at the Eastern last week. It was the best trade I ever made! :v

Thanks to all. Like I said I'm excited to give it a try. Going to a sporting clay shoot tomorrow, and would take it with me to the range to shoot afterwards, but I dont have all my stuff yet. I guess I'll just have to try it out in the back yard later.
