if youve been to the flitlock section youve seen my new Jaeger rifle. the gun is amazing less one issue that is new to me. ive delt with plenty of double set trigger guns but this one is unique. the way the neck and trigger guard are set up, you put all of your fingers inside the trigger guard.

this has introduced me to a problem ive never had before. as it turns out after the set trigger is pulled and you pull the main trigger, the set trigger snaps forward a short distance. ive found out if my index finger touches the set trigger at all when i pull the main trigger or durring its forward motion the gun will not fire (just click).

is there any thing i can do to stop or at least lessen this issue? is this unique to my triggers or is this a normal issue? (these are RE davis double set triggers)

thank you

Am I understanding that your interfering with the forward movement of the rear trigger on its way to the sear arm ?

If this is indeed the case you'll need to develope a different approach to your grip.

That's the way double set triggers work.

Most people with the standard shaped rear trigger don't have their finger on it while they are pulling the front trigger so they never know.

In your guns case I suggest you get used to wrapping your fingers around the trigger guard rail as was intended with these guns.

Doing this, your fingers will never need to worry about getting clobbered by the rear setting lever. :)

I think it's just unique to that Golden Age trigger you have mounted.
Davis has many DS triggers,
It could be an easy fix to just replace the rear trigger it'self. There are Davis triggers available in "kits" where each component is available and your is one; http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/916/1/TR-DST-GAK
Maybe the rear trigger from this one or another will drop in; http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/916/1/TR-JAEG-K

The links are just example, I'd contact Davis and ask them directly which rear triggers will match the geometry of your installed Golden Age trigger and perhaps swap it out with a style your more use to.
It's a simple matter of driving out a pin with a pin punch, really easy.

this is good idea, ill contact davis and ask if the swap would work.

this is my first time using a gun of this style so ive never had to deal with my fingers being in the way of the set trigger.

thanks

You mean the Platypus isn't original?

Actually the one link is to a "Jaeger" trigger made by Davis, :idunno:
Your most certainly welcome to take issue with Davis,

The platypus is natures mish mash, just the way it is. I have no problems with the platypus as I am currently finishing one up now.

You are certainly correct in your assessment of the Jaeger trigger by Davis, the other trigger is not.

Just pointing out the "captain obvious" part of this scenario is all, nothing more.

:v

you put all of your fingers inside the trigger guard.

No you don't.

I shoot an open grip rail with the older style set triggers. Your grip should be on the outside of the rail. Takes a little getting used to as it stands a little proud of the stock, but if you don't it causes problems as you found out.

:haha: , I have a different name for the one I'm trying to finish now,
The same word is used to describe a type of file,
