Ahh - interesting.
How does it taste?

See, we don't have bears around here - not since 1835. There was ONE in 2006 but that's a different story.

I am just curious - I hear old stories about something called "bear bacon" - the old timers used to cure parts of the bear like a bacon - salted and dried/smoked.

Do you test it for trichina?

Sorry, for the stupid questions - don't want to hijack your thread.

Great Job...the boys leave for bear camp on the 9th...last year we went 3 for 3...I can't make it this year, but I'm locked in for next. Congratulations on a great bear... :hatsoff:

Just got home it was a long week 2 bear were taken and my brother passed on a young one. The bear was completely processed at camp. Skun butchered, hide fleshed, fat rendered, skull boiled and teeth saved. Her head was shattered. If anyone ever doubts the killing power of a .50 cal round ball. I beg to differ. The bear went 10 yards maybe after the first shot. I spined her and she was dragging her back half. Thats when I walked up and finished her. It was a great hunt with close friends and my brother. I look forward to this week all year long. Thankyou for all of the kind words I have more pitures to post now that im home :hatsoff:

Trichinosis is killed by either cooking or freezing. I have shot quite a few bears and seen many more harvested but have only seen 1 with trichinosis! I hope this helps Silex. Nice looking bear Shine!!
