Anybody use valve grinding compound for patch lube for a few shots to shine up the bore?
I've done a lot of firelapping of ml barrels. When I bring the topic up or recommend it it's not unusual to be told that firelapping will destroy the barrel. Usually it turns out that they or someone they know used valve grinding compound! 😱

However, I did get favorable results using ACTUAL FIRELAPPING COMPOUND on patches. They do more polishing of the lands than the grooves. It also helps clean up sharp edges on the lands which is the most likely problematic area when patches are being damaged.

Another "However", shooting conicals with said actual firelapping compound gives the best all around results. Especially with hollow base bullets but that's not a necessity. The compound is used most was this one.

Used it many times. Works great.

Lately I bought a wheeler lapping kit and some copper plated conicals and just wipe it onto the bullet and do it that way. Seemed to have worked a lot better.
