Forum search turned up nothing. I think "box" was excluded for being too short of a search term.

Looking for a wooden shooting box with a built in rifle cradle, anyone know of any good places to look?

Would want a box primarily for use with my ML rifles. Right now, I carry all my stuff in a plastic waterproof box from Bass Pro Shops. It ain't pretty, but gets the job done for now.

I see them occasionally at the shows, but the ones I've seen haven't been what I want. I'd consider making one, but I don't have the time to spend. If I could at least fins a set of good plans, I could consider making one.

Here are some examples I found by searching Google:

I'd prefer to find one made here in KY, so I could pick up rather than ship. So, if anyone knows an individual with a box for sale, send me a PM! I'd appreciate it if you guys could post some pictures of your boxes and any pros/cons you can think of.

kyman,

a guy named craig christian makes shooting boxes and darn fine rifles and fowlers. his dad is bobby christian who also makes makes fine rifles and smoothbores.

think the boxes he makes would fit your needs. if not, i'm sure he could custom make one for you.

his work is great and very affordable.

if you look on dixie's site, you will see his box. he makes them for dixie..

look him up on the members list and send him a pm. can't give you a phone# cause it disappeared when we switched to the new comp..

keep us posted and ..ttfn..grampa..

I'm not sure what size box you are looking for but I have made several. I am still trying to size them down from "everything you think you need" to "just what you need" for your shooting occasion. I posted a thread some time ago with pictures of some of the boxes I have made. If you see something that interests you let me know and I will try to find the plans. It is Post#364822

Davy,
Those do seem to be good prices...Locally I
saw one similar to the 8drawer model and if I remember correctly it was $149.

Tip Curtis sells a real nice purpose built shooting box for $75, unstained. The top folds down and has 2 U shaped places for your gun and range rod. I bought one 2 Friendships back and it has worked great for me so far.
He's located north of Nashville. I believe he will also be at the CLA show in Louisville, August 17? I think thats when it is. I'm sure you would need to call him and ask him to bring one.
The mirrow is for metal in the eyes.

Here's a pic. 16" wide, 11 1/2" tall and 11" deep.

 Sorry Ky Man, that was not my post, or at least not the one I was referring to. I'm new to this forum and I haven't yet found a way to post a link to a previous post. I found it by using "advanced search", typed in "shooting box" under keywords and then "Silver Fox" in the user name box.
There are a number of different boxes there, hope you can find them this time. By the way, how DO you post a previous link??

That's just about the best-designed shooting box I've ever seen. Had to think about the half-rounds in the top and lid for a minute, but the red felt solved the mystery. Dandy!

Saw one some years ago built by a guy in Colorado. Great patterned cedar, all joints dovetailed, and two carved maple coyote heads attached to the fold out lid so they lay flat on top when the lid was closed. Folded down, the ears worked just like the notches on this lid. He built it for himself, and when I asked him if he sold them, he smiled and told me the same thing he told everyone else: "Build your own."

 :hatsoff: AHA!!, I just figured it out. Here's a link to those pictures...

Someone here had a box they make posted in the classifieds a while back. They offered the box in maple or cherry if I remember right. Unfortunately I can't remember who.

Ky Man, the mirror was to help machinist's pick steel shavings out of their eyes. The boxes were invented way before OSHA and safety glasses.

Sorry, I posted the link to page 2, instead of page 1. I emailed Tip Curtis for more information on any boxes he has for sale.

Tip had one of those boxes at his shop the last time I was there. They are nice. I bought a gun, so I didn't have any cash left for a box on that trip. :(
He's at the Dixon gunmaker's fair this week, but he said he'd be back in the shop around the first of August.

KY Man, Tip stays pretty busy and you might not get an answer to your email. Just call him up and talk to him. I've bought 2 guns from him and I'm gonna buy another one just as soon as I can get back down his way...probably next week.

I have posted descriptions of a box that I have and here are the pics posted. Another search might get more info as I think that I posted dimensions in that post. There were also other boxes.
