I am trying to work up a squirrel load for my CVA hawken 0.50, 1:48 twist. I am currently shooting 50 gr of ffG Goex under a PRB (0.490 diameter with 0.10 patch). Just about every shot is high and to the left at 30 yds. Even after adjusting the sights (this model came with an adjustable rear sight) it still shoots high and to the left. I am bench resting the shots but maybe i am moving slightly before the shot. Help??

Have you tried other load combinations? Also check the crown on the muzzle. Damage in this area might account for the deflection. Just guessing!

Are you a left handed shooter? If so, you may be jerking the trigger instead of slowly squeezing it with a steady follow through. You may also want to try a 0.015 or 0.020 patch. Also be aware that it takes approximately 200 rounds to break in a new barrel.

Cville hunter I have 2 same Both good shooters. Have 50&54 barrels for both,Have shot 7 deer with the one with54 barrel,2 over 100 yards with RB.I have them set up one with fixed other with adjustable sights. With it shooting to left you have to move the rear sight to right. If you want to move the front it has to go to left. To check the crown of muzzle shoot a max-ball in it. If the crown is off the max-ball will key hole. Dilly

If these other good suggestions don't work, try using some 3F Goex. I tend to get better accuracy in my GPR with 3F when I'm only loading in the 50 to 60 gr range. Above 65-70 gr loads I seem to do better with 2F. Just a thought.

Where dose it groop when you shoot offhand? Could be that the problem caused by the barrel resting on something hard when you shoot off the bench.

Question how big do the tree rats grow out your way? 50 gr of black seems on the heavy side

Usually if its high and left your a right handed shooter and jerking the trigger when you fire.

Lefty would be high and right

My .50cal "squirrel load" is 30-35grs of Pyrodex P under a .490rb and .017 patch. At 35 yards this load will produce groups that are nearly ragged hole accurate, using a smaller patch makes the groups hit high left and look more like buck shot patterns instead of groups.

Make sure your basics are taken care of first before you do anything. Is your rifle level or is it rotated away / towards you. If you think you are flinching aim your gun, unloaded, and put a cap in it. See if you are staying on the target and remember to follow through with the shot. Shoot 3 shots and look at your consistantcy. If you can not get a consistant patern within 6 shots your load might be the next thing to look at, assuming you are a good shot and your rifle has no problems. Another thing is swabing your barrel after you shoot. Some people need to swab their barrel after each shot, others after 3 shots and then others can shoot all day. The way that I have found out is by if the rifle is getting harder to load and my consistantcy is getting worse. I have also found that if someone can watch me shoot they can point out something that I might not be able to see, Hopefully this helps. :v

Thanks for all the advice and info. I will try the different suggestions and let you know what the results are. thanks again.
