Shot a big black bear this evening. It got dark fast so I'll track it down in the moring. It looked like a yearly calf.

It's the biggest bear I have every seen in the woods. Came walking down a logging road. Stop at about 20 yards. Looked at me, turned to the right showed the heart lung and boom. Ran down the road then into the woods. It got dark fast, could hear the bear but, not see it. I don't see well at night. So, I maked the place were it went into the woods and went back to the truck. My rifle is a 58 cal Hawken made by John Bregman. Great day!!!!

Sure hope you get the ball back for pics. But at 20 yards broadside I doubt it. I'm just getting acquainted with a 58 after years with a 54, so I'm wide open to new info (and good pics). Good luck on finding the bear in the morning. Pics, too!

Congratulations!

Yep, we definitely need pics - of the bear AND of the rifle.

By the way, I would have waited too. Wouldn't have been too smart to try and track down a wounded bear in the dark...

:hatsoff:

CONGRATS!! :applause: dang ya done had us worried! thought he mighta been trackin you...successfully! :shocked2: glad it turned out okay! (fer you, bear may see it different! :haha: )

Great job! Yup, a .58 would surely do a number on 'em! Good bear medicine. That's a nice size bear. Now for euro skull mount and knife handles from the bones. I've only used a .50, but it works fine. Puts 'em down quite fast. It's ugly enough to use as a club if need be... :shocked2:
