I chased em around last year with #6 shot, worked well. This weekend I am going to play with some duplex loads of #4 and #6 shot to see if it patterns better, few guys suggested duplex loads as a way to get a tighter pattern.

#6 here, but mainly because that is what I use
on rabbits also.
snake-eyes :hmm:

Bill: I use # 5 shot for squirrel, mostly because it patterns better than #6 for some reason in my guns, and I like how they kill even at 30 yds. I think #6 shot would be adequate for most squirrels and rabbits, but would avoid using 7 1/2 or 8 shot on them I just don't think you get enough energy to drive the pellets through the fur and hide to insure a clean kill. You will knock them out of the tree, but they will often get up when they wake up after ten minutes or so, and God help you if they are in your game pouch, or the back seat of your car when this happens!

I use #6 Magnum shot or #5 chilled shot. I've been thinking of getting some #5 nickle shot for more power, better pattern and no leading in my bore.

There are Squills and then there are Iowa Fox squirrels. I have found enough #6 in fur to believe in using #5 and have seen nothing wrong with #4

I use a mix of 4's and 7's most of the time when I am just out hunting. That will cover just about anything I might shoot at, and it patterns pretty good at 50-50 by weight.

Another vote for #5. I like #5's for larger stuff and #7.5's for small stuff like dove and quail.
