No patch, just paper. When I feel really ambitious I make a wax paper inner cup for the powder. This keeps the lube mx from leeching into the powder if you're going to store them, too. I tear off all but the paper surrounding the ball when loading, anyway. I make mine buy rolling a piece of paper (using the old English slanted pattern) around a dowel and then tying on each side of the ball with thread. Gives just over a double thickness all around the ball.
