Finally going to build a long rifle flintlock this year. I've been waiting to do so for almost 20 years.
I've always wanted a flinty in a beautiful curly maple. I've drooled over that wood since the first time I saw it.
As time has gone by tho, and seeing sooo many CM rifles, I've become intrigued with cherry stocked guns. Something about the warm tones and deep color.
Would love to see pics of your cherry lady if you would be so kind. Has the wood performed well and lasted the test of time and handling?

This gun is thought to have been made in the 70s. Wood has held up very well.

I'll show off this one too. Cherry stocked 28 gauge fowler, made from a member here. 48" barrel. Handles and points very well. Picked up in 2017, and it has darkened since that time.

48" barrel??? Do you just smack the birds in the head when they jump up? Haha.
Nice gun

Here is my cherry stocked New England fowler. I love it.

If I remember right, I just let the sun do its work on this one, Made the furniture from german silver. I am not a good photographer, but the color of the wood is very warm and pleasing.

.45 half stock with cherry wood rib. I think I used aqua-fortis on this one which requires some rubbing out with steel wool but the resulting color is very nice to my eye.
Good luck, you will like working with cherry, heck, I even like the smell.

Not too hung up on HC. Just want to build a beautiful long gun that I can be proud of and that shoots well. Will probably be a one and only build so I'm doing the leg work and due diligence before I jump down the rabbit hole.
Thank you to all who have posted pics. Much appreciated.

A 54 full stocked cherry plains rifle. This one makes me smile when I sit in the sun with it deer hunting in November. Just Permalyn on it, brushed back with OOOO steel wool. A real nice warm color to it in person.
