Side lock vrs flintlock

I hear people talk about sidelocks and flintlocks what is the diference if any are they the same thing -- just wanting to learn whats what Thanks

I have always considered both a flint and percussion to be a sidelock. Years ago it was used to distinguish between an underhammer and a sidelock.
Today it is used to distinguish between an inline and a traditional or any other type such as an underhammer.
There may be another definition, but this is the only context I have ever heard sidelock referred to.

Thats interesting. Guess I don't hang around many of the inline crowd. When we used to say "side lock", we were refering to a "slapper" or more commonly a "mule ear" lock. I can see how it could be used for both.
