May 18th-20th, 2007

In May of 1778, a war party of over 200 Shawnee warriors appeared at Fort Randolph. Unable to entice the men from the fort, the Indians rose from their hiding places to form a line stretching from the Ohio to the Kanawha Rivers, thus placing Fort Randolph under siege.

Welcoming all 18th century enthusiasts to the seventh annual Siege of Fort Randolph encampment and reenactment at Krodel Park in Point Pleasant, WV. The main event features the reenactment of Chief Cornstalk’s fate filled visit to Fort Randolph in the fall of 1777 and the subsequent siege placed upon the fort in May of 1778.

Friday evening, there will be a seminar by Doug Wood. Saturday events include demonstrations and drama/reenactment at 2 pm for the public. Saturday evening there will be a fort feast, auction, and tavern entertainment. Sunday a trek among the hills will be offered. Pre-registration is highly appreciated. Early set-up is available on Thursday.

Straw, firewood, water, restrooms and showers are available on site.

IMPORTANT!!!!

1. Flashguards are required for anyone participating in the battle, and there should be some available for sale by the suttlers.

2. All firearms must be loaded with paper cartridges. Paper cartridges will be provided to participants.

3. If you wear a powder horn, it needs to be empty.

4. The blades of all edges weapons must be covered.

I wrote it on my calendar - I would like to attend this year. Doug and Diane have invited me in the past but I had a conflict. Sounds like a fun weekend.

Question - what is a flashguard? For a flintlock? Please describe. What is it made of?

I hope to see you there. It is a great time, and the event continues to grow each year.

A flashguard is a piece of metal that is attached to the outside of the flash pan on a flintlock. When you fire a flintlock, a certain amount of back pressure escapes from the touch hole during ignition, and it can be painful or harmful to the person next to you. The flashguard prevents your buddy from being "peppered" with this burnt powder. Here's a link: http://jas-townsend.com/product_info.php?products_id=173

If you don't want to buy one, you can make one out of a metal copenhagen lid or something similar. Take care.
