Might not be the right place to post this, but....

New to blackpowder and muzzleloading, looking for an active ML group or individual shooters in Cochise County, AZ. Need suggestions on places to find powder and other supplies. Anybody out there?

Best of luck to you, hope you find some like minded souls.

Here in the Tri-State area (AZ, NV, CA) of Arizona along the Colorado River I have not even been able to find individual shooters, let alone a ML club. (lots of participation in cowboy shoots)

All the gun shops and such I have contacted said there is no ML interest and they carry next to nothing in way of ML supplies.

On the public bulletin board at the US Post office (Live in a small unincorporated retirement community) I have had two notes posted inquiring about local traditional ML shooters torn off by the next day, so I gave it up.

The "Bouse Hills Muzzleloaders" Bouse, Az. An outstanding
range. Nice club Rondy every Feb. They stock powder for
members at club cost.
I have been a member here for three years.

Can't say I ever heard of Bouse, Arizona, but I've only lived here 55 years. Where's it located?

As for supplies, I live up in Phoenix and they'r getting hard to find here too.
In fact, the only place I've gone to in Phoenix that has anything is Don's Sporting over in Scottsdale.

You might want to give Ed Holbert up in Tucson a call.
He's part of the Old Pueblo Muzzleloaders in Tucson.
His number is 520-298-8633

PS: Lead should not be one of your problems down there.
Old Bill Fergunson (520) 458-5321 sells pure lead and lead alloys out of Sierra Vista, Az to places all over the country.
I bought my last 30 pounds from him about 4 years ago. At that time, he looked to be 150 going on 200. Hope he is still in good health.

Bouse, Az. is 36 miles SE of Parker, Az. on Hwy 72. They have a very nice range. The range was set-up years ago by
the USMC.

The club is run mostly by fellows out of Buckeye, Az.
they shoot every month. Oct. thru April. Trail and
paper. Rifle and pistol. The club has a monthly news
letter. Range has a full time care taker. The range
is owned by La Paz Co.

Thanks, Zonie. That is news I can put to use. I reckoned I could get by on e-commerce for most things, but a source of powder and the chance for some first-hand advice from experienced shooters might be reason enough to make that long drive down into the valley.

Thanks Redwing. :) I see a dot on my map ::

AZ-Robert: Although they probably don't know much about the fine art of muzzleloading, there are BPCR silhouette matches at the Sierra Vista Rod & Gun Club every 4th Sat of every month except Auf., Nov. and Dec. Every 3rd Sunday there is a Schuetzen rifle match held there as well.

Glad to hear that, been through there a few times. I live about 120 miles north of Bouse, but will be investigating further.

Well, well. Showed the new-to-me flint longrifle to a friend, who mentioned it to a friend, who told another friend who gave me the name and phone number of one of the Montezuma Muzzleloaders, a group here in southern AZ. A phone conversation later, I now have the names of two shops in Tucson that deal in BP but I'll probably end up not shopping there! The club price sounds too good to pass up.

The group of a dozen or so shooters meets to shoot monthly, with the occasional special rondy-style event (most recently in June). I'll join them for their July event this weekend and get myself broken in.

Surprised that none of them is on the forum. I'll ask about it when I get a chance to meet them.

Tanstaafl, they have 2 shoots every month Oct.thru April.
Usally rifle trail, they have pistol trail. They have
a real nice paper range. You will like this range. If
you pass thru Bouse its I mile south on the Hwy. to Hope.
Just turn left and go in.
The club shoots are the first and third Sat. of each
month. At the Lapaz Co. Shooting Range.

Fine group of folks in the Montezuma Muzzleloaders of southeastern AZ. If you find yourself down this way, make sure to look them up. Showed up at their monthly shoot and got myself introduced around. Fine gentleman loaned me the powder I needed, along with horns to hold it, a measure, and a vent pick, and I soon had the PRB from my first (ever) firing of a flintlock muzzleloader soaring down range.

Using a very nice site on BLM land just north of Sonoita. Wide, flat dry wash between two steep 6' tall banks. Targets at 50 yards from the firing line along one bank; live oaks providing shade (a rare and precious commodity 'round these parts) along the other bank.

New-to-me rifle (.40 late Lancaster in flint) worked like a champ. Think I'm now addicted to both ML and flint. All in all, a very enjoyable first experience.

AZ-Robert,

I am new to this forum and am catching up on some of the threads. I see you found Montezuma ML. They are a good group. Another group is Old Pueblo ML out of Tucson. They have a monthly shoot and also a Rendezvous once a year down close to Nogales. I have a web site where Rendezvous' are posted. It can be found at http://www.cwgrizz.com/swroo1.html It is free for clubs or individuals to post blackpowder events.

Take care,
CW Grizz

To Zonie; I also live her in Phoenix and another shop with fairly good ML supplies is Randalls in Glendale. I've always been lucky there and very nice people. :v
