Now that I am recently retired I finally have the time to get out a shoot. :)

This rifle is my first and only build so far, a Southern Mountain Rifle in .36 cal, from parts I bought from Pecatonica River Long Rifle Supply.

I was just interested in getting it to hit where I was aiming and during this outing I was not concerned with group size and did not experiment with different weight charges or patch thickness etc.

I ended up filing about 80% of the front sight off to get the elevation close and did very minor
windage adjustments.

This was with 40gr of 3f @ 50yds.

Next time I will try different patch & powder combos and see how small I can shrink it.

And here is a quick video of a flash in the pan  ..it figures the one I try to record fails  ...but I guess I cant complain as I preformed very little maintenance while shooting over 2 hours

Oh yeah, by the end of my session I reduced my priming charge by almost half and had noticeably faster ignition then shown in this video.

Lookin' good.
A little load developement and you'll be cuttin' one-holers.

That's great shooting. And a great looking rifle. I've got one in the oven at TVM. Same caliber.

I've got a .36 caplock and was using 40 gr. of FFF and while it shot OK, I think I was blowing unburned powder out the muzzle. Next time out, I'll reduce that charge a lot, if the accuracy holds. Since the only thing I'll shoot with it is a squirrel now and then, 20 gr. of FFF ought to suffice, but we'll see.

That's a beautiful rifle. I really like the pecatonica stock shape. Shame they don't do larger calibres!

That is a beautiful rifle! I'd love to try my hand at building one again. I built several CVA kits back in the 70's and 80's.
I found 30gr of fff hit the sweet spot for me. I'm casting my own balls using a Lee mold. .350 64gr. And a .010 patch.
This what I'm shooting it out of. My TVM .36

For informational purposes only, I have reduced the loads in my "super accurate" :haha: .32 to 6 grains shooting in my backyard. It kills squirrels and rabbits very well, and while I haven't taken it to the woods yet, am comfortable hunting rabbits and grouse with it.
