Hi all. I am in the process of building a .32 cal verner flintlock. My intention is to use it a great deal squirrel hunting. I cannot stand the sights that came with the component set. My eyesight is not what it used to be. What are the rules at the official shoots in reguards to sights. I plan to attend Friendship in 06'. I'm not sure I will take part in any shooting events, but if I do, must they be fixed?

On my last rifle (old timer's eyes also) I went to the semi closed buck horn type at link. It works great for me and is designed to be mounted in same position as standard fixed rear sight.

If I was in a shoot where open rear sight was the only option, I would take a very thin blade in my jeweler's saw and put a slit in the top. The slit should not detract from the aperture effect.

Would using a site like one of the two below eliminate you from shoots?

Would in most any primitive shoots I am familiar with. Most shoots are with fixed sights only, no adjustables. (aside from drifting L&R in barrel dovetails)
