Anybody familiar with SILE-New York? I am thinking about taking one in trade but not being able to see it first, and not knowing anything about them, just wondered who they might have been made by and if they were any good. This one is a steel framed 1851 Navy. Any help appreciated.

As stated in the "BLUE BOOK OF MODERN BLACK POWDER VALUES":

"SILE DISTRIBUTORS
Previous importer and distributor of Invest Arms brand and D. Pedersoli brand, located in New York, NY until 1999."

They offered the 1860 Colt Army ("brass or steel frame" .44, the 1858 Remington Army (steel frame).44, Brown Bess, Hawken, Kentucky .45 and .50 and a "Pennsylvanian Squirrel Rifle" in .32 cal flintlock ($290-$410).

The Pistols must be from Invest Arms because their prices were given in this 2003 book as:
Colt $50-$100 ("add $35 for steel frame")
Remington $100-$135

Yea...I was just looking at some Pedersoli Sharps rifles and noticed the the older ones were imported by SILE....I had never heard of them befor either.

Rebel,,,I have a Siles Sharps..all looked ok and it shot well...Never did get around to zeroing it
in...It was not expensive but pretty good anyway.

Zonie, I have three Sile marked revolvers. One is a Remington 1858 New Model Army in stainless steel. It is made by Armi San Paolo. The other two are brass frame, Schneider & Glassick, and Griwold & Gunnison. The marks under the loading lever is D.O.M. on both. Do you know what manufacturer used "D.O.M."? This mark has evaded me for over five years. I also saw an 1847 Walker with the Sile brand years back. Interestingly it had the Cylinder in White the way many of the originals were shipped. I really would like help on some manufacturer's marks.

PR These appear on FIE revolvers
D.O.M.
C.O.M.
MOFRA on Replica Arms Paterson revolvers
Double Diamonds

bprevolver: Sorry, I don't have a clue.
The only information I have comes from the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Values which has a little article in the front about Italian proof mark dates and the symbols currently being used by some of the bigger Italian producers.

The link is to the article I was referring to.

IMO, the article is a great reference as far as it goes but I think that over the years, there are a number of marks made by various companies both in Italy and Spain that are not mentioned by the article.
For instance, the large capital "I" in a rectangular box that Investarms has marked on my Great Plains Rifles barrel is not mentioned.
The "S.MARCO" (San Marco?) on my Walker and the "ASM" (Armi San Marco?)on my 3rd Model Dragoon also are not mentioned in the article.
