Those who know the Siler lock pictured it has a distinct decorative bevel around it's perimeter, about half the thickness of the plate.
My kit has quite a bit of extra thickness around the lock area and will of course need to be shaped further.

My question is, does the proper shaping around this lock let the lock stand proud of the wood to the edge of the bevel, OR, is the lock plate flush and the bevel recessed below the wood?

This is the best representative picture I could find on the interwebs and it's still tough to tell if it sits flush or is proud of the wood.

To prevent a sway-backed panel, lower the panel wood with a sanding block long enough to bridge the inlet. Here is an example of a sway-backed panel(not done by me). You can see the dip in the middle. Also an example of a run out ramrod hole.
