Got an old pair of socks in the drawer? (Long stretchy tube socks work best.)

And a couple of plastic grocery bags?

Put some clean sand in two bags.

Tie the bag ends and cut off the tails. (The bags in this picture are tied off a little too tight. It's best to leave a little room for the sand to shift around.)

Then stuff them into the socks and tie them off. You can cut the tails off if you want. But I leave them on so I can tie the two tails together and throw the bags over my shoulder to transport them.

It works really well for a down & dirty sand bag rest.

Nice! you can also use rice. I used a couple of quart freezer bags filled with rice, then I sewed some pillow ticking around them.

I keep the socks for my feet. I use empty shot bags from reloading shotshells.
Thats what I like too but it seems that the nice canvas shot bags are going the way of the dinosaur in favor of cheap woven plastic bags.

For filler I have few with ground corn cob media I get from the pet store(I use the pet store corn cob in my brass tumbler too) The corn cob makes a nice sturdy light weight bag but I still like sand the best.

I like the sock idea. I will try it.

My way is more time consuming but you get real durable(mine are nine years old) bags in various sizes. Take an old pair of jeans and cut the legs off. Turn the legs inside out and then cut them to whatever length/size you want. Take a hot glue gun and glue one end shut(On the inside) After it dries turn it back rightside out and fill with sand. Then glue the be-geezus out the end to keep it shut. I wear leather work gloves due to my clumsiness and the fact that hot glue on bare skin HURTS LIKE HELL!!!!

I like the way your rice and the corn fillers can so nicely cross over to the survival realm. Styrofoam peanuts, OTOH, could be a considerable dissapointment. :)

I got new cheap nail aprons from the lumberyard and sewed them up except for about 1" filled with creek sand and then hand stiched the rest. Don't fill them too full and they fold over for double tall. I think the aprons were around $.75 each.

There are lots of things you can use as a filler. Cram your bag of choice full of plastic grocery bag, or rags, or cat litter(unused of course :rotf:), etc.

Aquarium gravel works better than sand, it doesen't filter through the cloth like sand will. I use old pants legs to make my bags just sew the open ends. Of course fill them first.

I make mine out of suede I get from the local craft store. I do a lot of sixgunnin' and need them to stand up to the blast from the barrel/cylinder gap. Had the same bags for almost 15yrs and they've held up well. Not bad for about $5 each.
