:hmm:Question to all, which Simple Green are you using. The company has about 20 Simple Green products . When ever wondering what a product will do, remember you only have to look up their MSDS and you will know what the product is composed of and the produts limits. Also remember that most Simple Green products are to be cut with water per their directions and do have petroleum ditillants. If anyone Really wants a REAL SAFE ENVIROMENTAL product for cleaning BP, I can give you information own one. The product is water based and Enhances Biodegrdation and contain no caustic, petroleum distillate or hazardous chemicals.E-mail [email protected]

Yes, but all you REALLY need is the WATER. :: Soap is just a liitle something extra ya can add but is not needed to get rid of powder residue. Granted, it may help a bit with grease type lubes.

:agree:Rebel, yes, but remember what BP is made from. The main remainder that is left behind is the oily part of BP, plain and simply FAT. I know that this statement is really going to open up some real come backs, OH well. :shake:

Is this stuff superior to (or what be the advantages over) Dawn dish detergent?

:crackup:YES, dish detergent generally use some alcohol as a base or phosphates or other "builders". That is why they work in cold water so well. We dont use any of the above items. Just one note. the main use for the product that I use,(manufactor) is to clean up Hydrocarons,Fats,Oils, and Grease. We our an enviromental clean up company and manufactor or owm products that are used around the world mainly for petro industery. That is why I use it for my cleaning,of cause why not! There has been some use of this product by other BP users in my area and they really can not belive how it cleans not only BP but also the lead. I will be in a short time be able to list this product for BP use. As for now if any one would like as stated before, E-mail me and I would be glad to let some samples out, as long as they last. Oh also we do have MSDS. In all faireneess to this site I will not list the name of this product, since it is a free site.

Based on the recommendation of my more experienced younger brother, i used simple green to degrease a cosmoline soaked military surplus rifle stock. Worked well for that purpose. Pulled lots and lots of oil out of that stock, definitely changed the appearance and color. Definitely a grease/oil solvent. If it was used on metal i think that whatever was cleaned with it would require oiling, which "everyone" does anyway after cleaning with water or similar mixes. (except whoever "cleaned" that $5 barrel i got at the last gun show).

I use a mixture of Simple Green and dish soap as a patch lube. Works well and cleans the bore as you load the shot. It also prevents patch "burn-through" because of the water base. The best black powder cleaning product is FORMULA 409 household spray cleaner. There is no better commercial product. It instantly disolves BP fouling Use it straight out of the bottle and give it a try. You will be amazed and will probably never use any other commercial cleaner again. :imo:

Ill have to check whats in the 409 cleaner ya may having somthing there too!! :front:

 :crackup:Check also what is in 409. It has solvents. For all that emailed me, I will be taking crare of within a week. Thanks

Because of this thread, I just tried the Simple Green diluted about 10:1 with water. Worked great as a patch lube and cleaner. We wiped the bore between almost every shot. Goex 3f in a .32 Crocket, .50 TC Hawken. .54 Harpers Ferry, and .40 flinter.

The guns cleaned up real easy too.
