Well friends, I´d like to share my Kit-gun with you. :hatsoff:
Just a simple Pedersoli Tradegun Kit.
A few things are going to be changed in the future. The ramrod comes ready stained with that kit - nonsens. :shake: I´ll have to get me another one.
As well as I´ll be replacing the ramrod-pipes (bad castings and too fancy for a tradegun IMHO) and the dragon-sideplate. Will have to wait a bit with that, need to find a bit more for my order till it makes sense to pay the shipping costs over the big pond.

Anyway, here it is. The stock looks a bit darker actually, need to try another photo-session under different light-conditions I guess... :surrender:

Looks like it came out nicely! I cant see the serpent sideplate too well from the photos, but it looks like one of the patterns that was used. What's wrong with it?

Well, I read already a few times that the Pedersoli-Dragonplate is not completly correct. :shocked2:
Some of the experts here in the forum might be able to give a perfect answer...
Not much of a problem at all, the holes of sideplates TOW sells fit according to the pics in their catalogue.
You should be able to open up the pics by rightclicking them and choose the option (dunno the english windows menue-text unfortunatly). The pics are in a pretty high resolution, you should see a little more then.
I´ll be making some more though in a few days I guess..

i would try cleaning up th e bad castings on the thimbles with some fine grit sand paper then polishing out the scratshes from the sandpaper with crocus clothe. some of the trade muskets came pretty highly decorated to appeal to the native americans they were trading with.

I have the same kit. Started working on it Friday. Hope to be done this week. There really isn't much to do with it in the way of wood work. Everything is pretty closely machined so it only required minimal wood removal and some nice finishing around the wood designs at the tang and lock. I'm not that concerned with absolute period correctness, so I may be adding a few things to mine.

Lovely looking gun.

Dan

 Still a Virgin I´m afraid. :surrender:
A friend of mine had planed an order at TOW.
Told him to add the mold and stuff I´ll need for that smoothie to his order.
Not sure if the order is already on it´s way.. :surrender:
:hmm: Better be lookin out for a handfull of roundballs here. Can´t wait to make some smoke with it.. :haha:

Hmmm, ich habe versucht "display all images at full quality" zu druecken, aber vergeblich. Mein Deutsch ist offensichtlich besser als meine Computerfaehigkeit.

(For the English speakers, I can't open the images at any higher resolution on my computer.)

Oh well... :shake:

The gun looks very nice, in any case.

:shocked2: Your German is perfect!
And well, it may depend on your browser.
Didn´t pay attention to that. :surrender: I´m using Opera, and it gives me the option.
Just tried it with the Internet Explorer. Only worked by right-clicking and copy the pic´s address and then pasting it into a new window. :shake:
Sorry. Hope you´ll find a way with whatever you use on your computer.

You have to tell your browser to open the image "in a new window". How you do that, depends on your OS and browser.

That worked for me.
Nice romeo!

The gun looks really nice..but I would like to see darker wood. The side plate shouldnt be too much a problem...order another stat suits you.
Have you shot it yet?
I have a trade gun on the way also...mine is 72 cal. North West. I'm anxious to hear how your shoots!!!

Thanks to all for the kind words to my minor skills results. :hatsoff:

Well scalper, I´ll apply a few more coats of oil and I guess the wood will get a bit darker then.
Couldn´t wait to show my new smokepole. :haha:
After the first coat of oil I assembled it and made those pics.

Might take a few more days till I´ll be able to fire a few first shots.
Ordered that kit together with a fellow colleague. It was a reduced price offer and we could even lower the price a bit by ordering two kits.
He wanted to place the order at TOW for the stuff we both wanted/needed for the gun (mold, wads, range rod)...
Rang him up now, he didn´t do much so far on his kit. :shocked2: Didn´t find the time to.
Sooo, he also didn´t order our TOW-stuff. :haha:
Well, now I´ll get my ramrod-pipes and sideplate together with all the other stuff, no need for an extra order.
In the meantime I´ll order me a few roundballs here in Germany. Should be enough to fire a few first shots. :v A little improvisation like taking a flint in a size for my large Siler lock and using a .54 range-rod for loading and cleaning will be necassary. But there should be no witchcraft needed to deal with that.

:haha:

Nope. :nono: A lotta small critters appreciate that I´m not looking for a golfcourt.
The tree the gun is leaning at for example is a wildcherry tree. Huge monster with a trunk-diameter of 30+ inches. :shocked2: A universe of it´s own. Some birds (a few of them rare to find species here) refuse to get outta there for weeks as long they find cherrys. :haha:
Some even stay too long - from time to time ya can hear a "bunk" and find a dizzy bird sitting underneath a window. Doesn´t happen the rest of the year, but when the cherrys are good for that the birdies get a little toxicated. :shocked2: Hard to navigate when you´re drunken... :rotf:

Thanks! I know my German isn't perfect, but since I teach it, it better be decent.

I like the tradegun, although I second the call for more coats of finish. Looks like tht'll be one to keep. Ausgezeichnet!
